The Design Story
Niels Diffrient designed the Liberty chair based on his idea for a fully functional, yet minimal, mesh task chair. The Liberty has curved lines and a contemporary look and feel. The features of the Liberty chair include an innovative tri-panel non-stretch mesh backrest, which he based on the concept of a tailored men’s shirt. Working closely with textile designer Elizabeth Whelan, the end result is a mesh that is a flexible, as well as strong and supportive.
“I’ve always insisted that the back adjust to the person and we have this unique Form Sensing Mesh that will accommodate any body shape and give you appropriate back support. Whether you’re short, tall, wide, narrow, the back will accommodate you.”
