The Design Story
Using his insight of how tailors take a three dimensional approach when designing men’s suits, Niels Diffrient created a minimal mesh task chair with a back that will automatically conform to the user. Working together with textile designer Elizabeth Whelan, they came up a flexible but strong non-stretch mesh, so the backrest takes on the shape of the sitter. The end result is the Diffrient World chair, a task chair that is simple but beautiful, and supports the user instantly.
